The worries of being a parent do not lessen as a baby gets older. If anything, the worrying gets worse. The more active lives of toddlers leads to more falls, bumps, bruises, and scrapes. These can all make a parent quick to panic. But most injuries that a toddler suffers are easily cared for at home. Even a toddler head injury can be mild enough not to merit a trip to the emergency room. But for the more serious head injuries to a toddler, medical attention is needed right away. If you are ever in doubt of the seriousness of a head injury to your child, call your child's doctor right away.
Some of the major signs of a serious head injury involve a loss of consciousness, respiratory problems, and irregular behavior. A toddler might be dizzy and unable to keep their balance. If a toddler is able to communicate to you where it hurts, get all the information that you can. If any of those symptoms occur, it is time to seek medical treatment. Tell their doctor what the child told you or what you witnessed when the injury occurred. The more information you can provide, in a calm manner, will be the most help to your child's doctor.
Staying calm is very important when it comes to any injury that your toddler might suffer. If you panic, you might not be able to tell a 911 operator the information that they need. If you remain calm, you will be able to administer any sort of CPR that might be needed or follow any other instructions that the operator gives you. Just take deep breaths and remember that help is on the way. If your child is conscious and you panic, the child is likely to panic, as well. Remain calm and your child will be able to remain calm, too. Anytime that your toddler suffers a head injury or other injury that you are unsure about, go ahead and call your doctor or go to the emergency room. You cannot be too careful with the safety and care of your toddler, even if the injury turns out to be minor. |
